1 August | Royal Selangor Pewter Factory with Sanjit Das & Suzanne Lee
Photographers are invited into the heart of one of Malaysia’s most iconic craft institutions - the Royal Selangor Visitor Center’s pewter factory.
This exclusive workshop offers rare behind-the-scenes access to the working factory floor, where skilled artisans continue a decades-long tradition of shaping pewter and crafting it into works of art. The session is designed around documentary-style photography, encouraging participants to observe patiently, and photograph the subtle relationship between craft, light, and repetition.
Rather than chasing singular “hero” images, the workshop focuses on building a deeper awareness of visual storytelling through observation and variety. Participants practise noticing textures, expressions, tools, movement, and the quiet concentration of master craftspeople at work, and capturing the scenes in a variety of compositions.
Led by Sanjit Das and Suzanne Lee, the session combines practical photographic guidance with discussions around seeing and working with intent in documentary environments.
Following the workshop, participants are encouraged to continue their experience with a guided visit through the Royal Selangor gallery and pewter museum.
