A hands-on introduction to street photography using the Leica Q System

Workshop Overview:
This workshop is designed for Leica Q users who are new to the system or looking to gain more confidence and control in real-world street photography. Led by Forrest D. Walker, an experienced Leica Q photographer and creator of the 100 City Project, this session focuses on mastering the essential functions of the Q system and applying them in practical, candid shooting environments. Forrest will walk participants through his personal workflow, recommended settings, and hands-on techniques for capturing honest moments with speed, precision, and presence. After a focused theory session, participants will join Forrest for a guided photowalk through the city — applying the lessons in real time with direct, practical support.

Workshop Objectives:

Understand the key strengths of the Leica Q system in street photography
Learn optimal settings for speed, stealth, and clarity
Develop confidence with zone focusing, manual control, and real-time decision-making
Train your eye to see and respond instinctively in urban spaces
Gain hands-on experience through live, on-the-street shooting with Forrest’s guidance

Things to note:

All cameras are welcome. There will be a limited selection of Leica cameras and lenses available for attendees.
Minimum 4 pax to commence photo outing. In the event the class is cancelled, you will be refunded accordingly.
Maximum of 10 participants.

About the Instructor

Forrest D. Walker is an American street and documentary photographer from
Portland, Oregon, currently traveling the world full time. Known for his bold
use of color, unposed storytelling, and relentless curiosity, Forrest has spent
over five years walking through more than 100 major cities across 70
countries, averaging 20 kilometers a day to capture the raw, candid rhythm of
urban life.

His signature project, the 100 City Project (Big City, Small World), explores
the beauty of everyday human moments across global cities. From Manila to
Istanbul, Johannesburg to Buenos Aires, Forrest finds common threads in
vastly different places, revealing the soul of city life through honest, immersive photography.

Forrest’s work has been exhibited internationally and featured in publications and platforms such as Street Photographers Foundation and Inkef. He has been invited to speak at photography festivals, universities, and community events in more than 10 countries, sharing insights from his journey and visual philosophy.

A self-taught photographer, Forrest is driven by the belief that the best photography comes from walking, observing, and engaging without influence or interruption. His approach is rooted in presence, empathy, and patience, capturing stories as they unfold without staging or interference.

Through his work and workshops, Forrest encourages photographers to see beyond the obvious, to connect with the environment, and to find meaning in the in-between moments. Whether on the streets of New York or a hidden alley in Bangkok, his images reflect a deep love for exploration and a fearless commitment to the human story.
