Travel with Leica: The Mesmerizing Kathmandu, Nepal
Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, offers a visually rich experience for photographers, blending ancient history, vibrant culture, mesmerizing everyday life, and stunning temples or stupas. The city is vibrant, with splashes of red, gold, and saffron found in temples, prayer flags, and local attire. The city’s textures — from weathered stone walls to handmade goods — add depth to every image.
Kathmandu is often referred to as the “City of Temples” due to its rich history of religious sites, particularly Hindu and Buddhist temples, shrines, and stupas. The city boasts a high concentration of ancient temples, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites, showcasing its deep spiritual and cultural significance.
Some must-visit spots for photographers include Boudhanath, Swayambhunath (also known as the Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Dhulikhel Village, and Chandra Giri Hill.
In Kathmandu Durbar Square, photographers have the chance to capture the beauty of Nepalese architecture and local life. At Pashupatinath, photographers can take portraits of Sadhus, the holy men in Hinduism.
A particularly interesting spot to visit is Chandra Giri Hill, where breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountain range provide a stunning backdrop for landscape photography.
Kathmandu is truly a heaven on earth for photographers.
The instructor will guide you through the art of storytelling by exploring cultural elements, mastering light, capturing vivid colors and contrasts, photographing architecture, creating impactful portraits, and enhancing your composition skills.
